STEVE YOUNG is a true musical pioneer. In the vanguard of the country-rock movement of the late 60s (his first album "Rock, Salt & Nails" was recorded on the heels of The Flying Burritos "Gilded Palace Of Sun" with Gram Parsons helping out on some recording) and the Outlaw Country movement of the 70s (check out Waylon Jennings "Lonesome On'ry And Mean" - a Young composition - or Young's own "Renegade Picker" album), his unique, ever-evolving musical vision cannot easily be pinned down. Folk, country, rock, singer-songwriter, blues, hillbilly; Young encompasses all of these styles and more. Aside from Waylon, Georgia-born Young has had his songs covered by a suitably eclectic range of artists such as The Eagles, Eddy Arnold, Ian Matthews, Rita Coolidge and Hank Williams Jr.

"Primal Young", Steve's first album in 6 years, showcases his various musical influences - and excellent vocal prowess and guitar technique - to great effect. There is an atmospheric interpretation of Dick Gaughan's "Worker's Song"; a rollicking run through of Tom T. Hall's "The Year That Clayton Delaney Died"; a laid-back take on the R & B classic "Lawdy Miss Clawdy" and reflective ballads such as "Sometimes I Dream" and "Heartbreak Girl". Young is singing, playing , writing and interpreting here as good as ever...
