his second full-length UK release, about Girls,
Contraception and Plaque (more about
Too Many Movies, some press
reaction so far). Features cameos from Laura Cantrell, Stevie & Chris from Belle & Sebastian and Francis Macdonald (overworked and underpaid Shoeshine boss and TFC drummer), Radio Sweethearts and John McCusker (genius folk fiddler and producer of the wonderful Kate Rusby) Michael's first solo album was "Half Empty" and he is also one half of Cheeky Monkey. |

Michael Shelley - "Too Many
Movies"(SHOECD007)
Sublime
guitar pop from New York's favourite son...Witty, catchy ditties
about girls, contraceptives and plaque...with cameos from Stevie
Jackson & Chris Geddes (Belle & Sebastian)...members of
Glasgow's honky tonkin Radio Sweehearts...John McCusker (genius
folk fiddler and producer of Yorkshire 'folk babe' Kate
Rusby)...and Francis Macdonald (back on the Teenage Fanclub drum
stool after a 10 year hiatus).
Recorded in New York, LA & Glasgow, "Too Many
Movies" is the second solo offering from Brooklyn's own
Michael Shelley. His distinctive, edgy vocals once again wrap
themselves around simultaneously sentimental and caustic
ruminations on love and loss. There are toe-tapping country
numbers ("Lisa Marie")...mid-tempo ballads (the title
track and "Baby's In A Bad Mood")...pop-rockers
("The Pill", "O Summer I Pissed You
Away")...and one for the young 'uns ("That's Where The
Plaque Is") cos he's just that kind of guy.
Michael Shelley has toured the US, sharing the bill with They
Might Be Giants and Shonen Knife. His first solo album "Half
Empty" was acclaimed on both sides of the Atlantic. He is
also a member of the part time pop duo Cheeky Monkey along with
Transatlantic compadre Francis Macdonald (BMX Bandits, Teenage
Fanclub, etc.). Their album "Four Arms To Hold You" is
beloved by pop fans from Tokyo to Valencia.
